In use by over 75% of the charter sector, the Common Online Application is one more way for schools to reach the widest audience of eligible families. The application is linked to the DOE Enrollment Office page and supported by an extensive student recruitment campaign throughout the spring. These resources will help administrators and families easily navigate and manage the Common Online Application.
The Charter Center’s resources are compiled from NYSED and our experience assisting teachers to navigate the certification process. Schools participating in our Teacher Certification Program will also find additional resources through the HR community of practice.

Parents have the right to apply for exemption from immunization requirements for medical reasons or based on religious beliefs. Charter schools need to follow clear protocols to ensure parents’ rights, even as they safeguard the school population. Medical exemptions must be approved by the NYCDOE Department of Health and Immunizations. Religious exemptions are approved at the school or network level; they do not require DOE approval.
