The E-Rate Application Process (2012)

The E-Rate program was set up in 1997 when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted a Universal Service Order implementing the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Order was designed to ensure that all eligible schools and libraries have affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services.

This document is a visual flow chart of the process of obtaining an E-Rate discount. Many schools contract with an E-Rate consultant to complete their application. Vendor information can be found here. Additional information can also be found here.
