Test Scoring Consortium

Charter school test scoring consortium

Overview

The Charter Center hosts a Charter School Test Scoring Consortium to coordinate the scoring of the constructed responses of the statewide English Language Arts and mathematics exams for grades 3-8.

We utilize an electronic scoring program that:

  • Efficiently enables charter schools to meet the truncated timeline for submitting test scores to NYC Department of Education and NY State Education Department.
  • Ensures that fewer teachers will be pulled from their schools to participate in the scoring of the constructed responses of the ELA and math tests.
  • Guarantees that the tests are completely randomized and that teachers conduct true “blind scoring” (e.g., makes it difficult for them to identify the students and/or the schools whose tests they are scoring). This helps to increase the validity and reliability of the test results.

ELIGIBILITY

All NYC charter schools administering New York State Elementary and Intermediate tests (grades 3 through 8) are eligible to join the consortium.

FEES

$10 per test
As an example, if a school has 50 students taking both tests the total cost will be $1,000: $10 X 50 ELA tests + $10 X 50 math tests.
