In 2004, as an outgrowth of the New York City Department of Education’s Children First reforms, three foundations came together to fund the launch of the New York City Charter School Center. The Charter Center’s founding sponsors contributed a total of $40 million, which has supported the organization’s work for five years. The Charter Center, in turn, has provided approximately $5 million in direct charter school grants. We will launch a new capital campaign in 2010.
