When large crowds gather together in support of a common political cause, legislators pay attention.
The New York City Charter School Center promotes charter school advocacy through various campaigns. By hosting campaigns that address important charter school-related issues, the Charter Center creates outlets for charter advocates to convene and demonstrate their support.
We created a petition directed at Governor Paterson against another charter funding freeze legislation. Over 800 charter school supporters signed. Now, more than ever, it is important for the charter school community to continue advocating on behalf of New York City's charter schools. Here's what you can do:
Since 2005, the New York City Charter School Center, in collaboration with the New York Charter Schools Association (NYCSA), hosts a charter school Advocacy Day in Albany. Parents, teachers, students and school leaders come together to engage state legislators on important policy issues, such as budget cuts, that impact the charter school community. The Charter Center provides free roundtrip bus transportation and lunch for participants, as well as briefing materials for meetings with state legislators.
